You can upload custom user attributes to segment and filter data by different dimensions. Additionally, specific DX products have requirements for user attributes that need to be set:
Analytics, PlatformX, and Onboarding require GitHub or GitLab usernames
Onboarding also requires user start dates
DX provides several different methods for updating user properties:
CSV Upload. You can upload User CSVs containing custom attributes from within DX's workspace settings.
Web API. You can use the users.update API method to set user attributes programmatically. API tokens can be generated by DX admins.
Directory sync. User attributes can be imported from directory providers such as Okta, Workday, and Azure AD.
Profile editor. For customers that cannot or do not want to enable directory sync, DX provides a profile editor designed be incorporated into your new hire onboarding checklist to make sure that new hires are set up properly in DX.
